Up Close: Angelina’s Stunning Engagement Ring
April 16, 2012

Brad Pitt proposed to his longtime partner Angelina Jolie in a big way recently -- with this outstanding emerald cut engagement ring -- and now you can take an up-close look at the stunner!
News broke on Friday, April 13 that after almost seven years and six children together, the pair were finally headed to the altar.

A rep for Pitt confirmed the news to ET and said that while no wedding date has been set, the engagement represents ’a promise for the future.’ The rep added that ’their kids are very happy’ and also confirmed earlier reports that the Moneyball star was heavily involved in designing an engagement ring for Jolie. The couple has three biological children as well as three adopted.

A rep for Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop told ET that he collaborated on the ring design with Pitt, who ’had a specific vision for this ring.’ Procop added: ’He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suite Angelina’s hand. Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution.’

Procop -- the former CEO of British jeweler Asprey & Garrard which served the British royal family -- had this to say about the ring’s quality: ’The side diamonds are specialty cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.’

Game of Thrones has been renewed for a third season.

Game of Thrones’ renewed for third season
by James Hibberd

You haven’t seen anything yet: Game of Thrones has been officially renewed for a third season by HBO. The network ordered another round of the fantasy hit, which recently debuted its second season to record ratings, then followed up with a nearly identical performance this week.
The third season is expected to be more or less based on the first half of George R.R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords — the third novel of his “Song of Ice and Fire” series of fantasy best-sellers. Long a fan favorite of the book series, Swords has several dramatic twists and confrontations (so … save the date!). Given the book’s length (the paperback edition is 1,216 pages) and action-packed content, producers plan to break up the novel into two seasons. HBO is not confirming if season three is another 10-episode order.
“As George and all his fans have said for a long time, there’s no way to do [Swords] in a single season, so it’s being broken into two,” said executive producer David Benioff during a recent interview with EW. “We’re still kind of figuring out exactly what goes where. We don’t want it to feel like a two-part season… From the beginning we’d always prayed we’d get to season 3 at least because, you know, two of our favorite scenes from the entire saga are in season 3.”
So far Thrones is averaging 3.9 million viewers for debut episodes this season, with the second season premiere’s all-viewing total up to 8.3 million viewers and counting. EW’s recap of Sunday night’s sex-stuffed episode is here.

Jennie Garth and her husband Peter Facinelli announced last week that they are divorcing after 11 years of marriage and three children together, and the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was spotted with no wedding ring.

Jennie, looking chic in aviator sunglasses and a striped top, was filming scenes for her new CMT reality show, Little Bit Country. The show will document her transition from city girl to country girl as she and her three daughters move to a Southern California farm.

When do you think it’s the right time to stop wearing your wedding ring? We want to hear from you.

What does everyone think of this? I think he should worry about what’s going on in our own Country. Does everyone else feel like this?

George Clooney was arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, DC on Friday and he appeared on the Sunday news circuit, speaking out about the situation in Sudan and why it’s a cause that’s important to him.

George Clooney Arrested During Protest

’I’m embarrassed to say this, but we would not be doing this segment, frankly, on Sudan if you weren’t a part of it,’ Chris Wallace admitted to Clooney on Fox News Sunday. ’Is that the point?’

Clooney confirmed the notion that he is using his celebrity to give attention to a suffering part of the world that would normally be ignored by telling of how his father, a journalist, used to get his human interest stories ’bumped’ by segments on Hollywood celebrities. Being affected by seeing this at a young age, Clooney came up with an idea in 2006.

George Clooney Gives Up Drinking

’I [asked my dad], ’Remember how you used to get all your stories bumped by, like, Liz Taylor or something happening in Hollywood?’’ said Clooney, who went on to make his dad an offer he couldn’t refuse. ’I said, ’Well, let’s go to Darfur and you be the newsman and I’ll be Liz Taylor and let’s get it on the air.’’

Clooney’s protest movement accuses the country’s president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering a volatile region near the county’s border with South Sudan.

’I grew up in a family that believed that … your job was to be involved with your fellow man,’ Clooney said. ’You have a responsibility to participate in the human condition, one way or another.’

Possible great news for Barbara Streisand fans. Comments?

Julian Fellowes Will Author Gypsy Screenplay for Barbra Streisand Film
By Adam Hetrick
13 Mar 2012

Barbra Streisand

Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes has been enlisted to adapt the screen remake of Gypsy, the iconic showbiz musical by Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, which will star Barbra Streisand.

Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner Streisand (Funny Girl, ’Yentl,’ ’The Way We Were’) will star as Rose in the film that she is developing along with Joel Silver (’Sherlock Holmes,’ ’The Matrix’) for Universal Pictures.

Fellowes is the book writer of Broadway’s Mary Poppins and is also the creator of the hit BBC/PBS series ’Downton Abbey.’ He earned an Oscar for ’Gosford Park.’

Tony-winning Gypsy book writer Arthur Laurents, who died in May 2011 at the age of 93, had signed off on Streisand’s plans for a new film of the property. Gypsy has music by Styne and lyrics by Sondheim.

Rosalind Russell starred in the 1962 film adaptation of the musical and Bette Midler lead a 1993 made-for--television version. Gypsy was most recently revived in 2008 with Patti LuPone as Rose. Bernadette Peters (2003), Tyne Daly (1989) and Angela Lansbury (1974) also starred in Broadway revivals of the musical. Ethel Merman created the role of the unstoppable stage mother in the original 1959 Broadway production.
